Journal Entry: Celebrating One Year with Our Brick Oven

It’s hard to believe that a year has flown by since I first began laying the foundation for our brick oven. On August 18, 2023, I set out to build something that would become much more than just a place to bake bread and pizzas - it would become the heart of Sherwood Coffee 'n' Bread.

The journey was anything but easy. Over 9 months of planning, building, and a fair share of problem-solving, I learned more than I ever imagined. But what kept me going was the vision of what this oven could mean for our community - a place where people could gather, learn, and share the simple joy of baking. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my incredible friends and family. Their encouragement kept me motivated on days when it felt like this project would never end.

Now, a year later, this brick oven has already brought so many wonderful experiences into my life. It’s baked countless loaves of bread, hosted gatherings with friends old and new, and even earned us a feature in the Albuquerque Journal! But most importantly, it’s allowed me to fulfill a longtime dream: offering baking classes here at Sherwood Coffee 'n' Bread.

Our classes have quickly become something I look forward to every week. There’s nothing like watching someone’s face light up when they pull a perfectly baked loaf out of the oven for the first time. Whether it’s teaching the basics of bread-making or exploring more advanced techniques, these classes are a reminder of why I fell in love with baking in the first place. It’s not just about the food - it’s about the connections we make while creating something together.
